On November 7 all three of ESYO’s percussion ensembles performed at Shaker Junior High School for their first concerts of the season. The evening opened with the Repertory Eagles Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Genoveffa Vitale. The Eagles performed Chris Crockarell’s Kaleidoscope and a selection from Jared Spears’ Cameo Suite. The Repertory Falcons Percussion Ensemble then took the floor led by co-conductors Richard Albagli and John Antonio performing Lynn Glassrock’s Layers and the themes from Mario arranged by Albagli. Following a brief intermission, the Youth Percussion Ensemble finished the night of explosive music led by Albagli and Mark Foster. The Youth Percussion Ensemble began its set with Albagli’s arrangement of Alan Hovhaness’ Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints with a wonderful solo by Eric Chang on the marimba. They ended the set with Wayne Shorter’s Footprints and the theme from Minuano. Congratulations to all of the performers on a great start to their season! Missed their performance? Catch them all again on December 22 at the Massry Center for the Arts.
