ESYO’s first day in Shanghai

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Today members of the Empire State Youth Orchestra experienced several parts of Shanghai, China.

We began our day with a tour of the Yu Garden, which was built about 700 years ago — though much of it has since been reconstructed.

We also stopped along the waterfront to take a couple group photos.

We then had lunch and rehearsed inside the amazing Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, which we followed with a dinner in an American style since it’s July 4th.

After dinner, we played a concert to a wonderful audience and received a standing ovation.

Tomorrow, a full day of sightseeing including a silk factory, water town with gondola rides and an acrobatics show.
