Elyse Barna || Woodwind Teaching Artist at Van Corlaer & Proctors
Born and raised in Albany, New York, oboist Elyse Barna is an alumnus of the Empire State Youth Orchestra. During a concert with the ensemble, she realized how profound her passion for music was and decided to pursue music as a career. As a performer, Elyse has worked with esteemed conductors including Steven Reineke, Joseph Silverstein, and Steven Jarvi, and has had the opportunity to perform in several, distinguished venues across Europe and the U.S. such as Dvorák Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and Carnegie Hall. In addition to playing the oboe, Elyse is passionate about teaching and making music education accessible to all. She most
recently served as Adjunct Faculty at New York University while researching the correlation between French history/linguistics and music performance. Elyse holds a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Instrumental Performance, and a Master of Music degree from New York University where she studied with Humbert Lucarelli and Matthew Sullivan.
