Auditions for 2013-2014 ESYO Ensembles

Dates: June 7, 8, or 9, 2013.  Applications must be submitted on-line by April 25.

Specific instruments will audition on following dates:

 Audition Procedures:

  1. Read the Audition Requirements (click here) and Policies (click here) to make sure you understand all requirements for the audition.
  2. Submit a completed Audition Application Form – below.  A completed form includespayment of the audition fee.
    • A separate application form is required if auditioning for on more than one instrument or if auditioning for jazz in addition to either a classical or percussion  audition.
  3. Pay the non-refundable Audition Application Fee. Fees: $40 for all instruments except classical percussion; $45 for classical percussion. Payment information is submitted through the application form.
  4. Receive email notification of your audition time(s) by May 10.
    • If you are auditioning for Percussion Ensembles, please submit the Audition Application Form and then call Richard Albagli at (518) 272-7828 for audition materials.
    • You will not receive an email notification of an audition time if your audition fee has not been received.
  5. Prepare all required material (excerpts, solos, etc.).  A PDF file of your excerpts will be emailed to you with your information about your audition appointment.   If you have trouble opening the file, please call Lisa at the ESYO office, (518) 382-7581.
  6. Audition.

 General Audition Information:

  • Audition Locations:  Classical:  Parsons Child & Family Center; Jazz:  The College of Saint Rose; Percussion: RPI
  • Eligibility:  School-age musicians who will be high school seniors or younger Fall 2013
  • Audition Length:  10 minutes
  • Audition Music:  Bring an extra copy of your audition solo for the judges; this does not have to be an original.

Audition Times:

  • Audition times will be emailed to you by May 10, 2013.  Be sure to include your correct email address in your application.  If you don’t receive an email by May 10, please call (518) 382-7581.
    • A PDF file of your excerpts will be emailed to you with your information about your audition appointment.   If you have trouble opening the file, please call Lisa at the ESYO office, (518) 382-7581..
  • Include all possible conflicts that will affect the scheduling of your audition time (e.g., SAT tests,  NYSSMA auditions, etc.) in your audition application. Your application fee must be paid in order for us to schedule your audition.
    • If you discover a conflict after receiving your scheduled audition time, please call the ESYO office immediately.  We will do our best to accommodate you, but the closer we get to the audition days, the harder it is for us to reschedule. 

Audition results:

  • You are not auditioning for placement in a specific ensemble.  Placement or no placement in a particular ESYO ensemble is determined from the ranking and recommendations given by the judges based on your audition.
    • Judges are not informed about current members’ ensemble history; rankings may result in placement different from current membership.
    • Final placements are subject to the approval of the Music Director and the instrumentation needs of each ensemble.
  • Audition results will be e-mailed by the end of June.

Auditions include:

  • Classical
    • Prepared solo that demonstrates both slow, lyrical playing and aster, more technical playing. You may play one work with contrasting passages/movements or two separate pieces.
    • A PDF file of your excerpts will be emailed to you with your information about your audition appointment.   If you have trouble opening the file, please call Lisa at the ESYO office, (518) 382-7581..
    • Sight-reading.
    • Click here for specific audition requirements.   Although you are not auditioning for a specific ensemble, these details will give you the parameters of the skill level expected of musicians in each ensemble.
  • Jazz
  • Percussion

*ESYO reserves the right to change these tuition rates for the 2013-2014 season.

For musicians in more than one ESYO ensemble OR for families with two or more children in ESYO, tuition is discounted by $50 per musician/ensemble. 

Tuition reductions or waivers are granted at the beginning of the season based on demonstrated need.  Information for applying for reductions/waivers will be posted with registration material after audition results are distributed.

 

Audition Application

Fields with an * must be completed. A separate application must be submitted for different genres (e.g., classical or jazz) or different instruments (e.g., violin or flute). You do not have to submit a separate application if you are also auditioning on a "doubling" instrument (e.g., flute and piccolo).
  • Please enter a value between 8 and 18.
  • Please enter a value between 4 and 12.
    Please put in approximate grade if home-schooled.
  • Classical or Jazz or Percussion audition? Choose in next field. NOTE: A separate application is required for Classical or Jazz. Applicants for Percussion Ensembles must FIRST complete this form AND THEN call Richard Albagli, (518) 272-7828, for audition material.
  • In the next field, please tell us all known and potential conflicts that you may have during the audition times in June, (e.g., NYSSMA auditions, SATs, etc.). We will do our best to take these conflicts into consideration when scheduling your audition time. Should new conflicts arise after your receive notice about your audition time (by May 10), please inform us immediately.
  • DOUBLING INSTRUMENTS - audition information If you are auditioning on a a doubling instrument, please complete the next two fields. NOTE: there is no extra audition fee required.
  • Parent / Guardian Acknowledgment - REQUIRED By checking the box below, you certify that you are the parent / guardian of the applicant named herein and you agree to pay the Audition Application Fee. You further agree that the application will not be considered complete and no audition will be schedule until full payment of the non-refundable fee has been received.
  • To complete the application please follow the following steps BEFORE clicking "submit."
  • Review the total that will appear - $40 for classical or jazz auditions; $45 for percussion auditions. (NOTE: a separate application fee is due for multiple auditions except on doubling instruments.)
  • $0.00
  • After clicking on "Submit," you will be directed to a PayPal page - whether paying by Check, Credit Card, or PayPal account. THIS MEANS YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO ESYO. Please follow one of the next steps as appropriate for your payment type.
  • Payment by Check: Simply exit the PayPal page and mail your check, payable to ESYO, for the non-refundable audition fee to ESYO at Proctors Theatre, 432 State St., Schenectady, NY 12305. Please include musician's name / instrument on check.
  • Payment by Credit Card: Click on "Don't have a PayPal Account" and you will be directed to a form in which you can insert your credit card information and complete the payment. Include musician's name/instrument as a special instruction.
  • Payment by PayPal: Complete the"Pay with my PayPal Account" section. Include musician's name/instrument as a special instruction.
