CHAMBER MUSIC PROGRAM FALL 2021

Chamber Music Program Fall 2021

Pilot program. See info below!

The Chamber Music Program is an ESYO enrichment program with the goals of developing ensemble skills, expanding student’s knowledge and appreciation for chamber music literature, and learning how to become musically self-reliant in a non-conducted ensemble. Designed and open to members of Symphony Orchestra and Repertory Orchestra, String Orchestra students who are interested in the program can apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The program begins in mid-October and students will participate in six coachings, a dress rehearsal, and a final concert.

There are two primary offerings of the Chamber Music Program:

Chamber Music Ensembles

No audition requirement

The Chamber Music Ensembles will be organized into trios, quartets, or quintets according to skill level and appropriate instrumentation. There is no audition required to participate in the Chamber Music Ensembles.

Chamber Orchestra

Audition required, Symphony Orchestra only

Ensemble of 8-16 students representing the highest level of music performance in ESYO, and will be strings-only for the fall of 2021. An audition is required to participate in Chamber Orchestra and only students who are currently in Symphony Orchestra will be eligible to audition.

Why Chamber Music?

Chamber Music involves working together equally, sharing opinions and striving to come together to make something beautiful. There is no conductor and each person performs their own individual part, so students learn to become musical leaders and help their group stay together, blend, phrase, match articulation and intonation. This unique collaboration teaches amazing performance and musicianship skills, opens the doors to some of the greatest music ever written, and is a lot of FUN!

"I love chamber music because of the close feeling all the participants have together. It allows me to really get to know the musicians I play with, and I have made some wonderful memories while playing in chamber groups."

Faith Borkowski, ESYO Symphony Orchestra violinist

Additionally, members of the chamber music program will be the first approached to perform for guest masterclasses and at special events at ESYO.

Coaching Length and Format

Chamber ensembles consisting of all Symphony members will receive a 60-minute coaching and a 30-minute student-led rehearsal. The purpose of the 30-minute student-led rehearsal is to provide an opportunity for the students to develop independent rehearsal skills. These important skills are required to lead productive rehearsals in a collegiate or professional setting.

Chamber ensembles consisting of Repertory members will receive a 60-minute coaching. A coach will be present at all times but will provide opportunities for students to learn how to make positive contributions to the rehearsal process. String chamber music ensembles will be assigned a string coach and wind chamber music ensembles will be assigned a wind coach.

String Coaches:
Jamecyn Morey
Jessica Belfower
David Bebe

Wind Coaches:
Julie Taylor
Yvonne Hansbrough

Cost

For all eight scheduled events (six coaching, one dress rehearsal and the concert) and any special masterclass opportunities:

Chamber Ensemble Participant = $180
Chamber Orchestra Participant = $180
Chamber Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra Participant = $270

Tuition assistance is available and participation is not dependent on the student’s ability to pay the full tuition. The deadline for registration is Saturday, October 9, 2021.
