Elvina Liu

Ensembles: Strings Faculty

Elvina Liu is a bold, charismatic, and unforgettable Chinese Kiwi violinist who defies the
classical archetype. Equally at home in classical, contemporary, free jazz, and improvised
music, Elvina captivates international audiences with a sound that is as intoxicating as it is
original.

Her journey with the violin began at nearly eight years old, inspired by a live performance of The
Lark Ascending. Just a year later, she made her solo orchestral debut before an audience of
over a thousand. From early festival appearances to international engagements across North
America and Europe, Elvina’s performance career has taken her to cities including Auckland,
Cremona, New York, and Weimar. She has studied under renowned teachers such as Mauricio
Fuks, Ioana Cristina Goicea, Philip Setzer, Midori Goto, Ani Kavafian, and Kurt
Sassmannshaus.

Alongside her classical pursuits, Elvina has built a vibrant presence across musical genres. She
regularly performs in theatre pits, collaborates on genre-crossing projects, and freelances for
weddings, corporate events, and celebrations. As a digital content creator, she reimagines the
violin for today’s audiences, crafting playful, provocative, and visually arresting content that
brings the classical instrument into bold new contexts.
Elvina holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Longy School of Music and a BA
in Music with Honors from Stony Brook University.
